My toilet tablets, in a big batch
The large-batch version, with cornflour for tablets that hold together better and come out of the mould cleanly.
Same principle as fizz bombs, but in bulk and with a binder. Cornflour makes denser tablets that come out of the mould without crumbling and dissolve more slowly in the bowl.
What you need
- 250 g of citric acid
- 250 g of baking soda
- 125 g of cornflour
- 20 drops of lemon essential oil
- 10 drops of peppermint essential oil
- A water spray bottle and an ice cube tray
The method
Mix the citric acid, baking soda and cornflour in a dry bowl.
Spray on a little water, two squirts at a time. The mixture must not foam: if it does, the citric acid loses its effect.
Work it until it has the texture of damp sand that holds together when squeezed.
Add the essential oils and mix again.
Press firmly into the ice cube tray and leave to dry for several hours, ideally overnight, before turning them out.
Storage and dosage
One or two tablets per use, and in an airtight container the rest of the time. The humidity in a bathroom is enough to set them off inside their box.
Safe for your septic tank
No bleach and no synthetic disinfectant: these tablets do not disrupt the bacteria in a septic tank.
