The powder that freshens rugs, carpets and sofas

Home textiles hold on to far more than dust. A powder to sprinkle, twenty minutes' wait, a quick vacuum.

Rugs, carpets, sofas and cushions trap dust, pet hair and odours, and no vacuum cleaner solves the odour problem. This powder does, and you can make it while the water for your coffee heats up.

What you need

  • 3 tablespoons baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon Sommières earth
  • 5 to 10 drops lemon or lavender essential oil

The method

1

Put the powders and essential oil in a jar and shake.

2

Sprinkle generously over the dry fabric.

3

Leave for at least twenty minutes, or overnight if the smell is well established.

4

Vacuum thoroughly, going over it twice in the direction of the fibres.

Test it first

On a colourful rug or a light-coloured sofa, test on a hidden area. Sommières earth is a clay: on very dark fabric, it can leave a pale film if you vacuum too soon.

The doses for our products are on their packaging, and that is what counts. If swallowed or splashed, call the Poison Centre on +32 70 245 245 and keep the packaging to hand.
