My dishwasher tablets
Four powders in equal parts in an ice cube tray, one night to dry, and you have enough for a month.
Each ingredient has its job: washing soda degreases, citric acid handles limescale, baking soda deodorises and coarse salt softens the water. It is the same logic as a shop-bought tablet, without the plastic wrapper.
What you need
- 60 g of washing soda
- 60 g of citric acid
- 60 g of baking soda
- 60 g of coarse salt
- 20 drops of lemon essential oil
- An ice cube tray and a water spray bottle
The method
Mix the four powders in a dry container.
Add the essential oil drop by drop: it foams, which is expected.
Mix very gently. If the mixture is still too dry, spray on two squirts of water, no more.
Press firmly into the ice cube tray.
Press each compartment down again after half an hour, then leave to dry for several hours somewhere dry and not too warm, ideally overnight.
Using them
One tablet per cycle, in the detergent compartment. With a very old dishwasher or very hard water, also put ordinary dishwasher salt in the salt reservoir.
Gloves recommended: washing soda is an irritant.
If the tablets crumble
They did not get enough water or were not pressed firmly enough. Next time, add one more squirt of water and press harder. Failing that, the loose powder works too: one tablespoon per cycle.
